CaixaBank fined €30m for AML gaps in real estate transaction  
Spain’s CaixaBank has been fined more than €30 million in total for AML gaps in a 2016 real estate deal executed by Bankia, which was acquired by CaixaBank in 2021. The bank has appealed the decision.  

India mandates stricter identity checks for crypto users
India’s Financial Intelligence Unit has tightened KYC requirements for crypto platforms, requiring live identity checks, location verification, and the collection of multiple digital identifiers.  
 
Moneyval publishes follow up reports on four countries  
Moneyval has published follow-up reports on Georgia, Montenegro, Poland and Slovakia. All four countries have made progress in technical compliance with Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations.  

US senators release draft crypto bill  
US senators have released draft legislation designed to create a federal regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, including rules intended to clarify when tokens are treated as securities or commodities. A hearing on the legislation was postponed.

US announces new sanctions against Iran over crackdown on protests  
The US Treasury has announced sanctions against individuals it describes as “architects” of Iran’s crackdown on protests. It has also imposed sanctions on “shadow banking networks.”

Former Ukrainian PM Yulia Tymoshenko charged in bribery investigation  
Ukraine’s anti-corruption bodies have charged former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko. Investigators allege an attempt to influence parliamentary votes through illicit payments. Tymoshenko has denied wrongdoing.
