C-Suite AML Risk Management Programme

Summary

The TD Bank Anti-Money Laundering case centres around serious allegations and investigations into the bank’s failure to prevent money laundering activities, particularly in connection with large-scale fraud operation.

The bank failed to file Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) in a timely and consistent manner. In some cases, large and unusual transactions were not flagged or investigated adequately, raising concerns about the bank’s internal compliance procedures. The course examines the investigations and allegations that the bank had weak AML controls and were involved in fraudulent schemes and the complications around the cross-border risks and oversight, together with the regulatory scrutiny issues and fines and penalties imposed.

The issues around what measures a board should take to strengthen oversight in AML compliance is a core focus of the course.
